Silverwood has been involved in establishing many vegetation management trials throughout northern BC. The trials are part of a research program province wide that continues to collect data from varying treatment strategies. The data is evaluated and used to develop and strengthen vegetation management prescriptions.
Whitebark Pine Provenance Trial
Since the early 1900’s BC’s whitebark pine populations have been greatly impacted by the white pine blister rust to the point where populations are rapidly decreasing and the species is now considered to be Blue listed (special conservation concern).
In the providence trials whitebark pine trees are grown in nurseries and then planted in a logged area at approximately 1000 meter elevation . The seed sources of the whitebark pines come from all over North America. The data will show if any of the seed sources prove greater surviva/resistance against the blister rust.
