Spruce Beetle Probing

During the summer of 2016 Silverwood worked to investigate a local spruce beetle outbreak. Crews probed stands and reported on current infestation levels. In conjunction with the probing investigation crews (at a reconnaissance level) identified what potential logging opportunities exist in these areas and identified the potential access to the logging opportunities.

In British Columbia, the most destructive pest associated with mature spruce trees (Picea spp.) is the spruce beetle (Dendroctonus rufipennis).
